At this stage I would like to point out that I am not a hater of our modern world, in fact I love it with the potential for anyone to make of themselves what they will. It’s important to acknowledge the dynamism of the modern musical landscape with shows such as The Greatest Showman and Wicked that have undeniably enriched our musical experiences. I also acknowledge that artists such as Leona Lewis have emerged from shows like the X Factor and, perhaps, without the show, we couldn’t have heard of her. It is regretful, though, that the commercialisation and quick wins of music appear to have done more damage than good as we discuss the unifying nature that music can and should embody.
